About the Author

Natalie was teaching in Delaware in 1996 when a friend suggested meeting in Annapolis for lunch. Crossing the Severn River Bridge, Natalie knew she had found where she belonged. After five years as a weekend-only resident of Annapolis, Natalie transitioned to a full-time resident in 2005. In warm months, Natalie is found sailing from Back Creek to the Bay Bridge and, on the return, motor sailing into Annapolis Harbor. There she enjoys checking out boats on the moorings and the occasional mega-yachts. Her favorite Annapolis boating memories are watching the Blue Angels’ precision maneuvers above the Severn River during Commissioning week at the Naval Academy. She has sponsored midshipmen and is a fan at Navy Football home games. Natalie enjoys hiking and biking through the scenic parks and trails in Annapolis and Anne Arundel Co. with one of the areas many Meetup groups. With a fondness for craft beer, Natalie firmly supports the motto, “Friends don’t let friends drink light beer,” and, for those who do, she attempts to help them see the error of their ways by suggesting something with a bit more flavor. Natalie volunteers at festivals in the Annapolis area. She appreciates the opportunity to listen to great bands, make friends and contribute to the sponsoring organizations who donate the majority of festival proceeds to local charities. Natalie is a teacher in Anne Arundel County Public Schools. She can be reached at her personal blog: Naptownchowdown.com or at Natalieksc@gmail.com

Happy Hour at The Chart House

Take the water taxi, walk over from Eastport, drive from downtown Annapolis or out of town, but you will want to put a visit to the Chart House on your upcoming agenda. If you have been there before, you will be reminded why every visit there feels like a special occasion. If it’s your first […]

Happy Hour at Skipper’s Pier Restaurant and Dock Bar

Although the kids are heading back to school, there are still two beautiful months to extend that carefree summer feel on the water in South County. With all the waterfront restaurants in and around Annapolis, many choose to stay with the familiar and close to home. However, a ride into South County to Skipper’s Pier […]

Pirate’s Cove and Big Mary’s Dock Bar

Galesville is an idyllic slice of heaven just 15 minutes south of Annapolis on the lovely West River. When you feel the need to just get away from traffic and the rush of daily life, a trip to Big Mary’s Dock Bar or Pirate’s Cove may be just the respite you need. Each time I […]

Happy Hour at Carrol’s Creek Cafe

Anne Arundel County – fortunately for those of us who live here – has no shortage of restaurants and bars along its many rivers, creeks, and The Bay itself. Carrol’s Creek Café (410 Severn Ave. in Eastport) provides one of the most expansive views of the water and landmarks of city of Annapolis. Directly beside […]

Happy Hour at the Annapolis Smokehouse and Tavern

Although the Annapolis Smokehouse and Tavern is a relatively new bar and restaurant, it has already established itself as somewhat of a neighborhood bar with many loyal patrons. This was evident on a recent Thursday Happy Hour when I entered to a crowded bar filled with lively conversations and greetings. It seemed there were a number […]

Happy Hour at Harry Browne’s

According to Harry Browne’s website, “Harry Browne’s has catered to local politicians and seven Governors and is a favorite with local lobbyists.” Being located directly across from the State House at 61 State Circle, this is no surprise. Perhaps this is why up until now, I never considered this a place I would go for Happy […]

Lures Bar and Grille: the Perfect Place to Unwind

“Drink Good Beer” is the motto on T shirts worn by staff at Lures, and if that is your penchant, head to Crownsville for some very good beer indeed. One of my top three bar/restaurants in the greater Annapolis area, Lures—and even just the thought of it—makes me smile. Lures is on my commute to […]

Red Red Wine Bar…So Fine

Extraordinary? Yes, but not quite right. Classy? Yes, but not broad enough. When I was trying to find the precise word to summarize my overall experience at Annapolis’ Main Street-based Red Red Wine Bar for happy hour, I finally was able to settle on an accurate adjective: “superior.” Yes, that feels right. While I rarely […]
